“I’ll never forget getting this call from Bishop Michael Brooks, “Hey man my wife is performing in your city. I need you to put a couple guys together and play for her.” As honored and shocked that I was that he would even call me I quickly said yessir and called my guy Norman Smith and my go to Shigg Rashad 🕊️ It was last minute and all we could do was show up and hopefully deliver. Well we did. Bishop was so impressed that he took time before getting back on the road and imparted a portion of his wisdom, experience, and knowledge into each of us and on top of that paid us all extra!! That was the beginning of a series of seeing him and his wife and having the honor to play for her and somehow earn the title of being one of their favorites. This man was a gentle and genre giant. Blazing the path as a musician and producer that literally 1,000’s have tried to emulate and follow. Praying for his church and immediate family!! Thank you for every word of encouragement I’ll carry them with me for the rest of my life🙏🏾‼️🙏🏾”

“There are times when we have to stop, take a pause and thank God for those who helped you on your way at different times in your life.
This man Bishop Michael Brooks helped me to cultivate my ear for training and directing choirs by opening the way for me to learn when he was our minister of Music at Pentecostal Temple COGIC.
He was the first person to introduce me to studio work as he had me do background vocals for his many musical endeavors. I can remember being in studio A until 2 or 3 in the morning and then having to go to work. I was tired but I loved studio work.
His daughter Jessica was a flower girl
in my wedding 34 years ago.
The songs God brought forth through him through his writing for the groups Commissioned and Witness will forever be a part of the Gospel soundtrack of my life and I am grateful that I had the honor of meeting Him. Rest in Love Bishop. You will be missed.
Please keep the Brooks Family in your prayers.”

“Received sobering news last night. Bishop Michael Brooks, one of the founding members of the group Commissioned passed away last night. The soundtrack of my young life as a Christian came from the pen of Michael Brooks and the other members. He wrote what I was feeling and experiencing. They were the first artists to literally sing what was in my heart and mind. If you know me well, you know Commissioned is still heavy in my music rotation and can be heard blasting in my car at any moment. I never felt he and the others received their just due as far as major awards and recognition from the music industry at large even though they were a huge influence on artists like: Boyz II Men, Jodeci, 112, Brian McKnight and many others. However, in my reflecting this morning I realized his iconic songs were really just written for an audience of one, his Lord and savior. We were simply the beneficiaries. Rest in Him, Brooks.”
