Stephen Akintayo’s Perspective on the BBC Documentary about Late Prophet TB Joshua

Recently, the BBC Africa Eye released a three-episode documentary detailing eyewitness accounts of alleged rape, torture, and forced abortions within TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN). In the wake of Prophet TB Joshua’s death on June 5, 2021, at the age of 57, his wife assumed leadership of the church. Despite the transition, reports suggest that the church continues to experience miracles just like in the days of TB Joshua.

The documentary features former church members narrating disturbing experiences of rape, torture, and forced abortions allegedly orchestrated by TB Joshua himself. Among the many reactions to this revelation, renowned Real Estate investor Stephen Akintayo’s perspective stands out.

Dr Stephen Akintayo suggests that after TB Joshua’s death, a power struggle ensued between the late prophet’s wife and disciples and Wise Men who sought control of the church. Allegedly, the wife used immigration measures to remove dissenting voices, keeping only those she deemed trustworthy. According to Akintayo, these disgruntled former followers collaborated with the BBC to tarnish TB Joshua’s legacy by hiring eyewitnesses to testify against him.

In his detailed post, Akintayo recounts a personal experience when his late mother battled Ovarian Cancer. Family members proposed taking her to TB Joshua for healing, a suggestion he vehemently opposed. Despite his skepticism, he emphasizes that his disapproval was not aimed at blaming TB Joshua but rather a reflection of his belief that true healing comes from God and not man.

Stephen Akintayo laments the broader issue of people transferring their spiritual responsibility onto pastors and religious figures. He acknowledges the presence of abuse within religious institutions globally and advocates for justice rather than sensationalism as the solution.

Turning back to the documentary, Akintayo suggests that the motive behind the allegations is rooted in a power struggle for control of the church, considering its significant wealth. He draws parallels with other high-profile cases, such as the attacks on Davido and his fiancée Chioma, attributing them to underlying motives of jealousy and personal vendettas.

Stephen Akintayo concluded by questioning the credibility of the BBC documentary, emphasizing the need for evidence and justice. He directs attention to the alleged endgame, questioning why accusations are directed at TB Joshua’s wife and stressing that the deceased prophet cannot defend himself. Ultimately, Akintayo encourages a deeper understanding of the situation and calls for a fair and just investigation.
